Press Release: Lion Coffee Introduces Hand-Poured Drip Coffee Pouches

HONOLULU – Lion Coffee, the Hawaii-based company behind the iconic red coffee bags, unveiled today a convenient to use hand-poured drip coffee pouch. This form of ground coffee, most popular in Asia, is now available to consumers in Hawaii.

The single-serving Lion Drip Coffee pouches are made of a filter bag filled with ground coffee, designed to be placed over a cup. Simply pour hot water into the filter and allow the coffee to steep and drip into the cup. Repeat the hand pour two to three times and adjust the amount of water to taste, for a freshly brewed, aromatic cup of Lion Coffee.

Unlike instant coffee, the hand-poured drip coffee contains freshly ground 100% Arabica coffees. The lightweight pouches are portable and convenient to brew anywhere hot water is available: At home, in the office, while traveling and outdoors. Lion Drip Coffee allows consumers to enjoy the aroma and taste of a cup of brewed coffee, without the brewing equipment.

Each Lion Drip Coffee is available in two varieties: The Original Roast and Vanilla Macadamia. Each carton contains five pouches. Each pouch contains 11 grams (0.39 oz.) of ground coffee, ideal for brewing a 6 oz. cup of coffee.

The Lion Coffee Drip Coffee is now available at T-Galleria by DFS, the Lion Café & General Store, and www.hawaiicoffeecompany.com.

How to read our labels

Looking for the right Lion Coffee? As you know, the bag and label colors can tell you a lot about the type of coffee you will find inside. Whether you’re stocking up your favorite flavored Lion Coffee in the red bag with the blue label, or looking for your 100% Hawaiian coffee in the gold bag, we’re sure to have something in our lineup to suit your taste!

Let’s take you on a guided tour of our lineup, so you can find your favorite Lion in the wild!

Red Bag & Red Label

Times change, but our signature roasts and blends remain as smooth and consisten as Hawaii has always trusted them to be. Every day, from bean to brew, Lion is here with the original cup that cheers.

Our classic lineup includes unflavored coffees such as Lion Original, Gold Roast, French Roast and Cafe Honolulu. Are any of these a family favorite?

Red Bag & Blue Label

We’re nuts about Hawaii, and the distinctive Island taste of our flavored coffees makes us feel at home wherever we are. Even when you can’t feel the sand between your toes, Lion helps you start the day in a Hawaii state of mind.

Sometimes an aroma can trigger a memory of another place or time… Maybe Vanilla Macadamia reminds you of lazy sunday mornings, or Toasted Coconut a honeymoon… what flavor of Hawaii is your story?

Gold Bag & Gold Label

With some of the world’s best coffee right here at home, we can’t resist sharing a true cup of Hawaii. We roast as many Hawaii-grown beans as we can source from Island Farmers so you can experience the distinctive flavors of 100% Kona and other 100% Hawaiian coffees.

When was the first time you tried 100% Kona Coffee? When you see our gold bag, you know you’re getting a 100% pure Hawaiian-grown coffee.

Black Bag & Black Label

No caffeine, no worries! Coffee isn’t just for morning, it’s also a perfect way to end the day. Enjoy every Lion Blend you’ve grown to love, with one small difference: these flavorful brews can be enjoyed night & day.

Nothing caps off a nice dinner quite like good dessert and a cup of coffee… but if you don’t want to be up all night afterwards, we have the decaf for you!

Green Bag and Green Label

Blending nutrient-rich Hawaiian Coffee Fruit with our smooth roasted coffee beans gives this selection an extra antioxidant health boost. This Hawaii-grown superfruit is now sustainably blended into Lion’s Classic and Flavored coffees.

The coffee cherry has more antioxidant power than acai, pomegranate and blueberries combined. If you added coffee cherries to your coffee, you’d get an amazing antioxidant boost in every cup. So, we did!

Our new labels are designed to make choosing your coffee fast and easy. Starting from the top you will see a brief tasting or flavor note. Are you in the mood for a coffee that is “rich and buttery” or “full-bodied”? This information gives you a brief insight into the overall flavor.

The largest piece of text, right in the middle of the label, will tell you the name of the of the particular variety you are looking at. Whether its Cafe Honolulu, Hazelnut or 100% Kona, this is the fastest way to spot your favorite!

Underneath the main text you will see the roast level. As a general rule, the lighter roasts contain more caffeine and emphasise the flavor of the bean, whereas the darker roasts place more emphasis on the flavor of the roast. Handy to know if you like your Coffee with hints of Chocolate or “smoky”.

Finally at the bottom of the label you will see the grind type. Only two choices here: whole bean for those who grind their own, or ground for maximum convenience when you really need that first cup of the day!

Brewing the perfect cup at home is easy! A good “rule of thumb” to start with is to use 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for every 6 ounces of fresh water, and adjust to taste. If you’re making a pour-over, a ratio of 17:1 of water to coffee by weight is a good guide, and for those who like it iced, use half the volume of water to brew the coffee hot, then add an equal amount of ice afterwards.

One final thing to remember – for MAX ROAR, the use by date is just below the barcode!
